Starter & Snack Option:
Kale & Banana Smoothie
Many of you may not know, but I am actually a Registered Holistic Nutritionist with my own business servicing our local area.

I do individual consults, health seminars and am regularly evaluating my own health.
These smoothies are a result of my 'experiments' in my own kitchen!
Basic Recipe
1-2 frozen bananas
1/2 cup (or more!) of kale
1 fresh banana
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1-2 tablespoons of hemp hearts
2-3 drops of liquid stevia
1/4 cup water
add in almond milk to desired consistency
Blend & enjoy!
I use the baby kale & it didn't seem as strong as regular. Y our choice.
I used almond milk, but any milk works :)
Hemp hearts are chock full of nutrients, but are also a great source of protein.
Stevia is a sugar that is considered safe for sugar sensitive people.
Could Also Add In:
Antioxidant Boost--> handful of blueberries
More Greens--> 1/4 cup of spinach (plus some more liquid!)

Seems like we have the same taste is smoothies! I looove bananas, kale is amazing and I can't leave cinnamon out of my smoothie :) Cool recipe!
ReplyDeleteThanks Tory! So glad you could stop by :)
DeleteI love smoothies and I also like to experiment with them too. I believe that bananas are the staple food of smoothie-land. I never thought of using them on green smoothies though. I'll try this recipe. What are hemp hearts by the way? Do you ave an image maybe? It could be that we use a different name here in SA
ReplyDeleteHi Zee, thanks so much for stopping by the blog!
DeleteThe hemp hearts are the orange bag in the pic above. Here they are sold in bags or in bulk, usually from health stores or others specialty stores. However, that being said, they are getting more mainstream due to the high protein content & lots of nutrients they contain. Here is a basic web with a description that could help further in your area: http://www.healing-source.com/about_HempHearts_b.htm (hemp, hemp seeds, hemp hearts)
I'd never heard of hemp hearts either, so thanks for answering Zee's question.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your smoothie. Their great for someone with a sweet tooth who is trying to eat healthy (namely me).
Me too...big sweet tooth here :)
