Where is God in the land of in-between?!

It's not easy to be in the land in-between...

You start a new exercise program....only to be derailed by a chocolaty fudge sundae the next weekend.

You decide you're going to 'fast' negative thinking....only to discover, that two days later you're getting laid off... leaving your resolve for positive thinking in the gutter.

You have just delivered your first precious newborn.....six weeks later he or she is so fussy & colicky AND your spouse & you are barely sleeping (let alone having 'quality' time together) and you were wondering about all the 'happy & proud parenting' moments that others fuss about.

So how do you press past the resistance?

The answer: one gradual (& sometimes painstaking) step at a time.

“You may encounter many defeats, but you must not be defeated. In fact, it may be necessary to encounter the defeats, so you can know who you are, what you can rise from, how you can still come out of it.”
― Maya Angelou

At the beginning of something new, it's not difficult to find the 'cheerleader' squad to have on hand in the background, celebrating alongside of you.

At the end of your journey, I betcha there will be umpteenth numbers of people waiting to congratulate you on your amazing accomplishments.
They stand there, ready & willing to celebrate this victory with you!

And that's great. And important.

But what about all the 'white space' in between?!

Where the effort becomes grueling?

Where the results may not even yet be tangible?

Where you constantly doubt yourself, and feel like giving up on your dream, perhaps many, many times....

Where the 'promises' of fulfillment are such a long way off...sometimes even seeming to disappear altogether off of the radar.

I feel there in many regards these days.

Stuck.

In the land in between.

Yet, I am VERY hopeful.

I am holding onto hope that the answers will come soon and that my personal breakthrough in the areas I'm praying for (and working so hard towards!) will come.

Evaluating my past choices and seeing where I can make changes.

Praying, praying, praying.

Getting outside input from those who have a vested interest to help me to grow. And who know the ropes to help get me from point A --> B.

But it's grueling some days...

Just watching & waiting.

Just hoping in the land in between.

"And now, Lord, what wait I for? my hope is in you."

Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all you that hope in the LORD.

Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer;

I will not give up. By God's strength I will persevere.

Wherever you're at in this journey, I strongly encourage you that by persevering, we are together overcoming the obstacles that stand in our path!

It may be your health.
It could be an issue with one of your children, your marriage, another relationship of some sort.
It may be a financial issue...

But whatever area of life it is, don't STAY in the land of in between.
Keep walking.
Even if it's only one small step at a time.

PS: You may not hear many cheering you on in the land in between, but trust me, look for a few trusted friends (they're there somewhere) and ask them to stand with you.
Pray for you. Keep you accountable til you get to the 'end'.

What about you: are you in the land in between in any area of your life?

  2. Don't just walk, crawl if you need to, roll...it doesn't matter just keep moving, just as you said! It's so important to acknowledge the in-between, the rough and tumble, the difficulties, for that's how the joys become ever more abundant. Or at least so that's my experience. Sometimes, somewhere in the midst of the in-between I even start to feel that something else is brewing and it's my job to have faith and trust and patience while I wait :)

  3. One step at a time! I highly, highly recommend "Loving the Little Years" by Rachel Jankovic. It's an easy read full of encouragement and wisdom for moms; my biggest takeaway was "no matter what, 20 minutes from now this whole situation will be over, so I just have to plug away for 20 more minutes". :)
