I'm folding laundry when I get the call.
"Mom, I hurt my foot. Something 'popped' out. I'm not sure what it is."
I go into my 'rescue mode', aka flood the adrenaline & I fly into action.
I gotta go pick him up.
I gotta go pick him up.
It's about a half hour drive to get to the school.
We live out of town.
I make the necessary calls and race to get him.
In mid race one of the kids helps me maneuver
a hands-free call to the drs. office.
They make a spot for us & after dropping off four of our six kids
at the sitters, we then dash to the drs. office...
...on the other side of town.
...on the other side of town.
The wait is short (thankfully)
& after a thorough check by the doc, we hear the good news: it's NOT a break!
& after a thorough check by the doc, we hear the good news: it's NOT a break!
Thankfully. Only a sprain. Not too bad.
But he may need some physio if it persists
(apparently my son disclosed that this has happened before)
So the next day I make an appointment for a physio & a thorough evaluation.
It was only a week and a half before this venture
that I went through a similar incident with
that I went through a similar incident with
another child...
I kid you not.
I kid you not.
Only that lovely adventure included an x-ray trip with my tot & baby in tow
(no sitter that day)
Ooy.
Parenting.
It is one of those topics that brings up so many emotions.
What could be more rewarding?
What brings more satisfaction?
How can I put into words the significance of
this hugely important role??
On the other hand...
Some day I feel more like the older version of Bilbo Baggins
as he laments,
as he laments,
"Why, I feel all thin, sort of stretched,
if you know what I mean: like butter that has been
scraped over too much bread...."
Yes, some days feel more like that ^

My toddler started walking pretty late.
She's 19 months & only recently took her first unassisted steps.
She had us a bit concerned that there was something amiss,
but nope, she's just stubborn in that area as well ;)
She's walking now alright...
And running,
and climbing,
and getting into things....
and climbing,
and getting into things....
Safety measures that are taken care of aside,
she is still one busy girl to follow around!
Oh, and our little one just turned two months.
He's super duper handsome
& coos now,
and oh, you should see how much his eyes light up
& coos now,
and oh, you should see how much his eyes light up
after a feed.
But he's a bit colicky.
Cries for hours some days.
Took him to the drs. The chiropractors office.
Talked to the midwife.
They all think he'll outgrow it.
I'm giving him some baby probiotics for good measure.
I think it helps? Unsure.
Parenting is sure full of adventure :)
I guess every blog post should have a purpose
and not be a rambling of sorts of a housewife/stay-at-home-mother
who is venting...(smile)
So I suppose my purpose is this..
If you're out there,
and you're a parent too
(a father, a mother, a step parent, a foster parent,
a god parent, an adoptive parent, a mentor/spiritual parent, etc. etc.)
Then you'll know how crazy hard this gig is.
This Parenting Job.
This Parenting Job.
Cuz our kids have our hearts.
And we're super duper in love with them.
Want the very best for them.
We pray that God's best will come to pass in their lives.
& pray...and pray. And stand in prayer some more.
& pray...and pray. And stand in prayer some more.
We help pick them up when they fail.
Encourage them in their successes.
We walk with our kids through the mundane,
and the amazingly seasons of awesomeness they
may experience.
Yet, some days it feels overwhelming.
Quite.
Very much actually.
However, on occasion, we can see the fruits of our efforts
combined with the Lord's goodness.
Here's a couple passages that may encourage you,
especially when the going gets tough:
2 Corinthians 4: 16-18
"Therefore we do not lose heart....
for momentary, light affliction is producing in us an
eternal weight of glory fay beyond all comparison,
while we look not at the things which are seen,
but at the things which are not seen; for all the things
which are not seen are temporal,
but the things which are not seen are eternal."
Philippians 3: 12-14
"I don't mean to say that I have already achieved these things
or that I have already reached perfection.
But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me.
....I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing:
Forgetting the past & looking forward to what lies ahead,
I press on to reach the end of the race &
receive the heavenly prize for which God,
through Christ Jesus, is calling us."
Be encouraged.
He is with you.
In it all...
Galatians 6:9
"Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we DO NOT GIVE UP"
(emphasis mine)

ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading your musings! Parenting is overwhelming at times, and it is nice to know sometimes that other moms are feeling the same way. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI think those musings are pretty great! Though we haven't had any incidents really, I do know the joys and difficulties of following behind an active toddler all day and night. I know it isn't going to be easier, just different. And with a new babe on the way, it'll only also get more interesting, while also remaining just as fulfilling (if not more) and enjoyable, even on those days when I've been stretched and worn too thin! :)
